Yup, it's official, I'm off the diet bandwagon. I can blame it on not having enough support, having no partners in crime, the stress of leaving my last company and going to a new one, on vacation to Cabo. I can blame it on lots of things.
End of the day, I was the one who decided to start putting fatty, unhealthy foods back into my mouth. I guess it's really my own damn fault.
Go figure.

Oh... this is awesome. Office romance.
I kind of wished we had this at our work, I mean, our company do have some crazy parties. This is probably one of the funniest "faux" documentaries I have seen.

Tesla Model R. Pretty.
Wow. The new convertible will be modeled after the platform of the upcoming Model S and looks like a a sexier version of a Jaguar or Aston Martin convertible. Entry/exit will also be much more convenient.
I wonder how much this car will cost...

There is always one in every office.
Trust is a key component of any successful company or team, and it only takes one problem employee to kill the atmosphere.
This will naturally lead to decreased productivity over time. Snitching is also bad for employee morale and camaraderie; who wants to be friendly with people that might stab you in the back?
Besides creating an overall dysfunctional workplace, tattletales can also lead to increased employee turnover, costing a business the time and money it takes to recruit new hires.
Below is a good resource on how to both identify those individuals as well as how to deal with them in the workforce. I learned a couple things after reading the article, and definitely need to think twice next time I'm tempted to fight "fire with fire" or loose my temper from their actions.

Facebook Privacy
I just found out that my work has the ability to track what I post on Facebook, even though I have my Facebook privacy pretty much on lock down. The post I made about the company was fortunately innocuous but a report was generated nevertheless.
It is scary to think that Facebook may be offering unlimited/unfiltered access to their corporate accounts for employers to spy on employees. If that is true, our privacy settings doesn't really mean much, does it?
Something to remember next time you post/share on FB, huh?

Weight loss with Vitamin Water?
"The truth is that when it comes to weight loss, what you drink may be even more important than what you eat. Americans now get nearly 25 percent of their calories from liquids. In 2009, researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health published a report in theAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition, finding that the quickest and most reliable way to lose weight is to cut down on liquid calorie consumption. And the best way to do that is to reduce or eliminate beverages that contain added sugar."

My Lion (anonymous "Kitty" poem)
Lion bunghole is the best,
It is more fragrant than the rest.
I can smell my Lion from afar,
When he farts, doors must not be left ajar.
When he poops he clears the room,
My nose explodes with a deafening boom.
Lion bunghole is the best,
To that I can attest.

Comments on Tiger Wood's beat down Youtube video
While reviewing my old posts on Facebook, I saw this funny video of what happened after Tiger Wood's wife found out that he was cheating.
It gets better. You should definitely check out some of the comment left by the users, especially this one, "Even though Woods has not liked calling himself black, the whites do it for him. There is a Jewish attack on the black man. they are killing off all of our people (Mike Jackson) so the highest peaks are gone. Now they are attacking blacks who dominate white sports. Woods, Willams Vick. Jews have almost totally replaced regular whites and now they are going for us. This is why they bring Mexicans to work while they start killing off the blacks."
Unfortunately, the internet doesn't filter for stupidity or ignorance. Very much like this XKCD comic:

Butter Chicken Fail
My SO and I tried this recipe on NPR and the result looked like the one in the picture, but tasted too tangy and not savory at all. My SO fixed the issue by adding enough Tapatio to the curry so she couldn't taste anything else.
Not sure what was wrong with the recipe but we'll be finding another version to try later on. The midas standard is still the local "fast food" Indian joint. Their butter chicken is rich and flavorful and savory and perfectly spiced.

Tesla S -- still waiting
So when are they going to build this car again? Tesla has both already gone public as well as bought the Fremont NUMI plant. What else do they need?
Their stock (NASDAQ: TSLA) has been around the $20 dollar per share range for a while, which isn't that bad considering my own company's stock has dropped over 50% since it's IPO in Feb.
I'm really looking forward to the car.

Even all the time that has passed by, I chuckled every time I think back to the day when the leverage buyout of VW by Porsche failed, and somehow now VW owns the once proudly independent Porsche.
Guess what guys, the VW execs are actually not that bad. They are finally getting rid of that ugly ass Panamera.
Okay, I have to admit, I really did enjoy riding in the back of my friend's Panamera 4S. The car can definitely be classified as a limo. But nevertheless, ugly.

Top 5 Acquisition Strategies
Here is a repost of a great article I found on Sparxoo. The original article is here. The reasons listed below apply across verticals, including online media.
Gain Market Leadership
There is not a defined leader in the mobile ad market. Consequently, many of the largest tech companies are acquiring mobile ad networks in the race for market leadership. Google and Apple are two clear competitors vying for market share. Apple’s recent acquisition of Quattro Wireless for over $250 million dialed-up the competition with Google, which acquired AdMob in Nov. 2009. “The [AdMob] deal is similar to mobile advertising acquisitions that AOL, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Apple have made in the past two years,” writes Google, “and experts have called mobile advertising a ‘very fragmented’ space, in which ‘no ad network is dominant’ and ‘no one really knows what ad network is biggest.’”
Acquire New Customers
When MySpace acquired online music site, Imeem in Dec. 2009 the social network funneled all of the Imeem accounts to MySpace.com. It was a natural fit as MySpace and Imeem had a similar product offering — both sites built communities around avid music enthusiasts. In June 2009, Imeem Mobile reached the milestone of 1 million downloads on the iPhone and Android and had nearly 10 million site visits in July 2009, according to Compete.com. In an attempt to curb declining usership, MySpace bought Imeem to grow its user-base.
Expand Product Portfolio
Since Google’s rise to the top of the search engine market, it has greatly expanded its product portfolio. The search giant has acquired nearly 60 companies to expand its capabilities in the tech world. The largest acquisition was of DoubleClick in mid-2007. While AdSense served as Google’s primary advertising platform, the search giant sought to expand its product portfolio by acquiring the banner advertising company for $3.1 billion.
Achieve Scale
Macy’s was able to achieve incredible scale in a short period of time. The NYC-based retailer grew from several stores to a national brand. Macy’s parent company, Federated, acquired the May Departments Stores Company for $11 billion in stock. Soon thereafter, the Macy’s company grew from a handful of stores to a total 850 locations in 2006.
Obtain New Talents and Skill-Sets
While there are many underlying elements of Bank of America’s acquisition of Merrill Lynch, one reason the Main Street bank purchased the famed Wall Street all-star was to obtain new skill sets. “The most forward thinking integration strategies also capture key pieces of elusive core competencies, such as an organization’s best practices, skills, knowledge bases, and routines,” writes Graziado Business Report. Bank of America’s $50 billion merger tapped into Merrill Lynch’s nearly 16,000 financial advisers. After the acquisition, the Main Street bank had Wall Street prowess.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it
Seriously, people are going online for a $100-200 Christian Louboutin and think they are real?
I think people who buy from those sites deserve it. If you want the designer, chances are you'll have to pony up for the real deal. Nothing wrong with thinking it's too expensive and saving your cash, but don't bother trying to flaunt what you don't have.

You have to be happy where you are
I had a fairly serious discussion with my manager today regarding my professional progression as well as career outlook within the company. I learned a lot during this experience. I asked for input from both my close colleague and friends prior to breaching this subject with my manager and they suggested I do not talk about salary or complain about not getting the promotion as promised.
What my manager said to me stuck to me.
He suggested that if I enjoy working where I am, I should do my best and not be worried if I don't get promoted because I have learned a lot during my tenure. On the other hand, if I have lost my drive, I may need to have a heart-to-heart with myself and possibly consider another opportunity.
I think I know what my answer is. Not sure what type of sucker I'd need to be to work tirelessly for no reward...

Government just can't fix stuff
The cash for clunker program was a huge relief to the sagging automobile sector during the economic crises. The program helped drive sales of cars off dealer lots and generate more demand for manufacturing. The only problem is the government inadvertently created a mini-mortgage crises with this cash for clunker program.
What the government failed to understand was that most of these individuals who took advantage of the program drove those old, fuel inefficient cars because they were not in a position to purchase a new vehicle to begin with. Long term leases exacerbated the situation as they gave incentives for individuals who shouldn't purchase the vehicle all the monetary opportunities to do so.
Long term leases are just bad ideas, and although beneficial for the dealer and manufacturer, offers absolutely no value for the consumer. The reason why is through leasing, you still pay for the depreciation of the vehicle. Why would anyone pay for the deprecation of the vehicle for over 5-years then return the car is beyond me. If you finance the vehicle, you would at least have the vehicle paid off. If the individual can't afford or get financing, they probably should take the bus.
End of the day, 1-year later, we have a surplus of used vehicles from this program that is now piling up on dealer lots as well as "lease trading" sites.

Power of Facebook -- The Facebook Movie
I love how the studios are now creating a movie about the story of Facebook named "The Social Network".
I don't remember ever seeing them make a movie about Oracle or Medtronic, etc. I guess they're not as well known and there wasn't as much drama involved. The trailer makes Mark look like a complete nerd that just wanted to be popular. Well, based on his looks and awkwardness when speaking I can buy that. I get the impression he's the Bill Gates of 2010.
Once Facebook reached critical mass, it's very difficult for someone not to be on Facebook. Individuals start inviting people to events online, keeping in touch online, and ultimately plan out their life online. People who fail to join are ostracized, and left out. The more people live their lives and share on Facebook, the more Facebook becomes valuable. Consumer information is very valuable to advertisers. Where else other than Facebook would users share their information so freely? People share with others detailed information from where they went to school, where they work, to the TV shows they like as well as their political and religious views.
The funny thing is, Facebook's staying power is its ability to attract users. Fundamentally, Facebook is no different than Myspace or Friendster (or any other social network). You can think of Facebook like a nightclub. One may be initially attracted to a new club because of it's furnishings, but you go back because of the people and atmosphere. Once a club starts attracting the undesirables, the club is no longer popular and people move on to find the next biggest thing. This is one of the biggest fears of Facebook, and the main reason why they are so innovative.
Facebook has also become a social network tool that keeps people in touch where they otherwise would never have. I have always been surprised how many people read my updates even though very few comment on them. There is also no denying that every one of us has a little "Peeping Tom" in ourselves and we are always eager to both share our lives as well as peep into others.

Having reached out to a majority of these domain parkers on the list, I realized a lot of them had much higher expectations of the price of their domain than the price we were initially willing to pay. Many of them referenced third party appraisals.
Based on my conversations with numerous Sellers, majority of these individuals use the following three tools to value their domains.
This may not be the final price a Buyer is willing to pay, but you can get an initial benchmark using those resources.

Value of a keyword
Ever wonder how much a keyword is worth?
Although Google Adsense is very secretive about their payouts on a "keyword phrase" basis, I believe you can indirectly infer that information based on how much you have to bid to be on a certain "keyword phrase".
The theory is the more an individual has to pay to show up on a certain keyword, the more competitive and valuable that keywords is, and therefore the more likely Google is willing to "share" that payout with their publishers.
You can enter up to 100 keyword phrases each time and ascertain both the average bid price as well as the volume the keyword generates on a monthly basis.
