Due to a friendly, and hopefully supportive, office "Biggest Loser" competition, I'm going to be at it again.
I wonder if I will be as mentally, physically, and genetically prepared as I was in college. During my Senior year in college, I managed to drop from 215 lbs to 170 lbs within 3-months, then ultimately drop down to being the fittest I have ever been in my life at 145 within the following 5-months. I felt great, and I felt even better when neither my parents nor my best friend could recognize me when I returned from college.
Now that I'm in my 30s, and back to my even more glorious 220 lbs, I wonder if my genetics have caught up with me and will prevent me from repeating my previous fame. I have always heard the wives tale that it's much harder to loose weight when one's older, as our metabolism slows, and we burn less. I wonder if that will be the case for me now.
In addition, in college, I had a fully stocked cafeteria offering healthy alternatives. Here, in my professional life, I have fast food. We all know eating good and healthy is expensive!
Anyways, I stopped by GNC today to get vitamin supplements for the potential lack of nutrients I may miss out on by eating less, though I can't imagine what a double-double from In N Out could have offered me in terms of actual, real nutrition (besides a shorter lifespan through clogging my arteries). I also dropped by Trader Joes to buy some healthy snacking alternatives like dried fruits and roasted nuts, oh, and some energy bars.
Let the games begin.
