Frozen Butter Croissants from Milk Pail Mountain View/Los Altos

These little frozen buggers came extremely highly recommended from an old coworker.  Last time I went to acquire this delicious product (I imagine delicious, since I haven't tried them yet), the freezer at the Milk Pail was broken so they did not have any of the products available.  This time around, we were fortunate enough to get some.  We bought two varieties, the original butter as well as the apple filled.

The instructions online (there were no instructions that came with the bag, oddly enough) told us to leave the frozen items overnight to allow it to rise and be ready to be baked in the morning.  I guess yesterday was pretty cold since the dough did not rise as much as I had anticipated, or as shown in the picture on their site.  I turned the oven onto "warm" for a couple minutes and stuck the croissants into there, hopefully the extra heat will help it through the last hurdle.

I can't wait to try the croissants and report back, but I have heard so many people rave about it that it has to be good.

Well, turning the oven onto "warm" for a few minutes, then shutting it off and leaving the "left out overnight" croissants in there for a hour really made a difference.  Must still be too cold here.

While we are on the subject of Milk Pail, my SO and I decided that we will probably abstain from shopping at Costco for our produce.  Being only a couple and a dog, it's difficult for us to finish anything perishable that we purchase from Costco because there is just so much of it (Costco is all about volume).

Milk Pail reminds me of the European open air market that we experienced in Barcelona (La Boqueria).  Although Milk Pail isn't as festive or large as their European counterpart, they have the same spirit.  Good, fresh in season produce and a large variety of unique products not easily found elsewhere at your local mega-mart.

There, we are able to purchase a variety of produce, in quantities just enough to last us over the week.  This is a huge contrast to our experience shopping for perishable produce at Costco, where we are stuck eating only one item for weeks on end until we get sick of it.  This is because Costco only sells in one size, super size.
