I have been successfully using the My Fitness Pal app to help me lose 50 lbs so far. I am fairly close to my initial goal of reaching 175 lbs. In fact, I am within a pound or so "dry weight".
I have always wondered why my caloric intake was restricted by the app to only 1,200 calories/day. I started paying around with the app and adjusted my weekly target weight loss from 2 lbs/week to 1.5 lbs/week. My caloric allowance increase to 1,600 calories/day. Then I decided to see what the caloric intake would be if I just decide to maintain my current weight. The result was 2,000 calories/day.
I guess the government guidelines are correct...
