Reward for a month of being good... Ad Hoc Fried Chicken

As a reward for being good, I gave myself a hall pass and went to Ad Hoc for their fried chicken.  I was a bad, bad boy when it comes to my diet tonight. In fact, I'm pretty sure I ate so much calories that I didn't even bother itemizing the individual courses I had, I just picked 3,000 calories.

To kick off the night, we dropped by Bouchon Bakery for some macaroons, shortbread cookies, brioche roll, pretzel brioche, and an epi baguette.  The macaroons and brioche were consumed the same night... the epi I'm saving for breakfast for the remainder of the week.  If you have an opportunity, you have to visit this bakery.  All of the baked goods served in Thomas Keller's three restaurants come from here, and many of these items you can purchase individually without having to spend the extra dough to eat at each of the restaurants.  My SO and I went in reverse, we loved certain baked goods at the restaurants when we dined there, then figured out we could have purchased them on their own.  They make some of the best macaroons I've ever had.

Ad Hoc was a really rewarding and amazing meal, and we took half of the fried chicken home cause we just couldn't finish the food.  I really wish they allowed us to split a portion.  Like French Laundry, the food is amazingly executed, innovative, delicious -- but just too much of a good thing.  I would happily pay a reasonable, nominal fee to split a portion instead of having to get my own.  It's just so much food!

All the complaining aside, I know I am very fortunate to have experienced this meal.  The fried chicken was the best I've ever had, and both my SO and myself agree that it was the brine that made the chicken so juicy and tender.

Pictures to follow.
