What makes a person ugly?

I think Robert Tornambe makes a very eloquent point with this article here.  Many times I meet people who I find initially very attractive but become more turned off by them the more I associate with them.  My girlfriend has encountered this as well.  And for poor saps like me, these are the only tools in our toolbox to make us look more palatable to the opposite sex.

So basically, becoming a better person makes you more attractive to others.
